Day of Atonement unique is the special role of the high priest. This is the only day of the year that the high priest, and only the high priest, could enter into the most sacred room in the Tent of Meeting. This cubical enclosure, set off by curtains, was the Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies) where God was present. Inside the room, the priest sprinkled blood from animal sacrifices at the sacred ark of the covenant, the piece of tabernacle furniture that represented the dwelling-place of God. A
